Welcome to Roosevelt School where scholarship and service merge!

Welcome to Roosevelt

Welcome to the Roosevelt School website!

We are excited about this new reconfiguration and the opportunities it offers us to personalize our instruction and interactions with Grade 5 students.
We are looking forward to creating a new culture at Roosevelt School in collaboration with students, staff and parents and having our many events unfold on these pages.
Thank you for your interest in the Roosevelt School.  Feel free to contact me via phone or e-mail with any questions, concerns or comments.

Sincerely,
Elizabeth Wallinger
Principal

Recycling Rangers: Turning Knowledge into Positive Actions!
Roosevelt students are turning their knowledge into positive actions. After learning about environmental issues and how we can live sustainably, our 5th graders have taken a step forward in making a difference. Our "Recycling Rangers" collect recyclables (paper, plastic, and aluminum) each day with the hope to sustain our earth for future generations.
All proceeds from our can/bottle drive will help fun "Roosevelt Roots"- our collaborative school garden.
Make a difference- Recycle!

Roosevelt Keeps Donating!
Each month a class is chosen to collect canned goods to bring to the food pantry. This month: Ms. Giorgio's class donated and learned about the impact of their donations. A special thanks to the Ossining Food Pantry for teaching our students about the gift of giving!

PACE University Field Trip
All fifth grade students at Roosevelt School had the wonderful opportunity to visit PACE University during October. The students started with an interview with the admissions director and were able to ask questions about college applications, scholarships, SATs, etc. Next, the PACE basketball teams taught the kids some basketball skills. Lastly, they were engaged in the agricultural programs that are offered at PACE. It was an excellent opportunity for the students and staff. A special thanks to PACE for arranging for such an engaging field trip. We hope to go back in 2021...when we graduate!

First Annual Mini Field Day at Roosevelt School
We celebrated our first mini field day together and it was a blast for all! A special thanks to the Physical Education teachers for arranging such and awesome event. It was a pleasure for all of the teachers and the entire staff to see all of the smiling faces on our beautiful, sun filled field day.

Roosevelt School Musicians Salute Hospitalized Veterans
Teacher Honored by Veterans Affairs
On Friday, February 12, 2010, several teachers and students from Roosevelt School traveled to the Montrose VA Hospital to help celebrate “National Salute to Hospitalized Veterans Week.” Teachers Peter Piacquadio, Doug Correllus and Alanna Honore took more than 25 students from the Roosevelt School Jazz Band and Orchestra to the hospital to play several pieces of music for veterans there. Teacher Ron Whitehead organized the event.
For the past 10 years, students from Ossining have played music at the VA Hospital on Veteran’s Day each November. This year, however, the District was asked to come back a second time due to popularity with the Veterans.

Service and Scholarship Personalize Grade 5 Learning
“Welcome College Class of 2021!” When Grade 5 students arrived at their new school, Roosevelt, in the fall, a banner with these words welcomed them, as it has every day since. The idea is to put into their minds goals beyond their time at Roosevelt.
“Grade 5 is the last stop on many levels,” said Roosevelt School Principal Liz Wallinger. “Our vision is to get students ready for the deeper, independent learning of the middle school, as well as the world beyond it.” To do so, she and her faculty decided to form a school focused on both service and scholarship.
